Kids’ Chance Scholarship Fund
The Kids’ Chance Mediation Project was established by the Workers’ Compensation Section of the Mississippi Bar in 2002. Its purpose is to fund and award scholarships for children whose parents were seriously or fatally injured on the job. Lessening the financial burden of secondary education on families who have lost a breadwinner is vital because higher education is expensive and the need is great. Injured workers’ weekly wage loss benefits are limited in amount to 2/3’s of the state’s average weekly wage and in duration to 450 weeks or about 8 1/2 years.
The Mediation Project is funded by Kids’ Chance Mediators who donate $50.00 of every hour of their mediation fees to the Kids’ Chance scholarship fund. The success of the Mediation Project is due to the generosity and selflessness of Kids’ Chance Mediators. All mediators are experienced workers’ compensation attorneys who represent both employers and employees and who are spread geographically across the state. Click here for a list of Kids’ Chance Mediators and their email addresses.
In 2023, the Kids’ Chance Mediation Project partnered with Kids’ Chance of Mississippi, Inc. so that the mission of the Mediation Project that began over twenty years ago will be amplified and enlarged to include the entire workers’ compensation community and to raise even more money for more deserving students.
Kids’ Chance of Mississippi Inc. is the state chapter of Kids’ Chance of America. Kids’ Chance of Mississippi Inc. was incorporated in 2022 and qualifies as a charitable organization under Internal Revenue Service Code Section 501(c)(3).
