The Gaming Law Section of The Mississippi Bar will host a two-hour CLE “What are the odds? A look into sports wagering operations, technology and regulation” on Wednesday, May 3 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Treasure Bay Casino in Biloxi (this will coincide with the annual Southern Gaming Summit that week). The CLE will be presented by Chris Dougan with Genius Sports. Genius Sports, based in London, is a global leader in sports data technology and distribution. The CLE presentation will focus on how Genius Sports works with leagues, regulators and governments to combat game-fixing and maintain integrity in sports and sports wagering through consultancy, monitoring and investigations. Focus will be on navigating the various legal and regulatory environments the company is faced with, and how they stay ahead in the ever-changing sports betting environment. Also highlighted will be how the company uses data capture technology to distribute statistics in real-time to fans worldwide. There will also be a brief legal update on the new Fantasy Contact Act passed by the Mississippi legislature this year, and a look at the status of additional sports wagering laws passed across the U.S. recently.
