Last August, the Mississippi Access to Justice Commission joined the Mississippi Volunteer Lawyers Project in launching Mississippi Free Legal Answers, Mississippi's first-ever, free online legal help website, available at https://MS.freelegalanswers.org. The site is designed to assist Mississippi's low-income citizens with their legal questions. The service answers civil law questions only. Topics may include family law, bankruptcy, consumer, education, employment, housing, workers compensation, estate planning matters, among others. Site users ask questions anonymously and volunteer attorneys respond similarly. Attorneys who answer questions can receive pro bono hours for doing so and the site will track the pro bono hours for later reporting to The Mississippi Bar. As with any new effort, the site will only be successful if those who need it are aware of it and if a sufficient number of attorneys are willing volunteer to answer the questions that reach the site. Please help us promote the service by directing people who call your firms or organizations with legal questions to the site for assistance.
